Date: 2020-08-02 05:57 pm (UTC)Interestingly, solder iron manufacturer Metcal is doing the same - their solder iron tips come with chips inside, so you can't use superior and longer-lasting Thermaltronics tips with a Metcal-branded base station.
"Protects power supply from non-conforming cartridges" means "you are locked in to using our overpriced tips with shamefully-thin plating".
