A Minor Surprise in Book Markets? Or Not?

If you have, you've likely already seen this entry on the state of book-selling in Canada. It goes some ways to reaffirm what a lot of us already knew or suspected.
I've been trying to steer more of my business as a reader-consumer to indy bookstores whenever possible. Living in Ottawa, I'm very happy to report that this is still doable, thanks to outfits like Perfect Books, as well as the several comics shops around the city.
I certainly hope that, per the study cited in the Sequential article, Long Tail theory will be of benefit to such stores over the long haul.
Weird thing: I find myself increasingly interested in CanConLit as I age, which marks me as an anomaly in the current marketplace as described. *scratches scalp in puzzlement*
