Seeing this article today was a surprise.

I would have thought of SETI as an ongoing project, given the scale of the search field.

I'm figuring that the home portion is the wrap up; didn't follow the link, didn't read.

It was only working on windows machines last I looked at it, and that would have been many iterations ago. I'm not sure that the penguin identification projects and the like are still really going or if all of that has become routes into people's machines.

I've run it on a mac for ages, off and on, and linux before that. But i do agree it's the home portion that has been paused. I can imagine interesting patterns coming from a review of processed data in aggregate: patterns not at the scale of a TV show but changing over years. That wouldn't be apparent in a chunk of home processed data.

I saw that, and looked at the petition page, and based on my reading of that news service over the last ten years, I question and distrust the assertion of the petition's founder. If it's based on Suzanne Moore's commentaries alone, then Moore should hie on over to, say, the Daily Mail post-haste.

Feminists and trans rights activists ought - said the naïve cishet male - to be on the same team here. That the overlap between the two groups is not complete (yet) distresses me. Both are under continuing attack by the same people, after all, and for the same excuses.

It isn't. The Guardian constantly (like in the here and now) supports TERFs. There's an intention to reform the GRA to make things better for young transitioners and they are screaming blue murder even though the laws covering this stuff have long since changed- back in 204, indeed so ranting about toilets and 'female spaces' (I'm legally female so already have a right to use those spaces) is hardly aposite.

I'm not convinced as yet, but I will be making a point to look more critically at what I read from that source, and to make my dissatisfaction with such thinking clear every time I see it, be it from columnists affiliated with them or from people they interview. That latter point will be where my Facebook account will be useful, I expect.

We now have evidence that Guardian employees themselves see a problem here with their upper management and are actively pursuing remedies...and meeting resistance to that for now.
