Freezing rain night here.

Ottawa-Gatineau doesn't have it the worst in Canada, mind you, but it's still a pain to those of us living here.

It's wretched here. I bailed on my plans and stayed home where it was dry.

I am very thankful that, as a rule, we don't get freezing rain here. If it's that cold, it will usually just snow. It might melt when it hits anything, but it'll usually just be snow.

Friday at the library was interesting. I came out of the back, glanced at the outside windows, and noticed it was snowing. I knew it was too warm for it to accumulate, but still, it was pretty. I mentioned it to E, whose birthday was a week ago Friday: she'd been hoping for a snow day so she'd get a day off, but it didn't happen. The girls at the front counter who are work-studies also get a kick out of it.

The library is in Alamogordo, which is about 4600', it doesn't snow there often enough for it to not be a novelty. It snowed for a couple of hours then stopped as the storm moved away. It was enough to close the highway back up the mountain, but it reopened before it was time for me to head home.

Funny thing: Environment Canada was connecting the overnight freezing rain in my neighbourhood - it ended before the sun came up by turning to snow - to weather events previously underway in Texas. Some sort of moisture buildup that picked up steam as it moved northeastward...
