Petro-States

Graydon: "Canada is a petro-state in a bad way politically."

There is an effort underway to keep us entrapped in being a petro-state against our will right now, provincial government by provincial government. It's been underway for a decade or two, at least, I believe.

Whether we can rescue ourselves from that...October is the next stop-gap point for that, I think. Is it the last opportunity, though?

Failed petro-state. A petro-state is functional when the price of oil is high.

And I think we want to escape being in either petro-state condition, right? No more of even trying to play that game.

I don't think there's any last opportunity to change. The costs go up with each change delayed, though. At a certain point, change looks less like democratic turnover and economic diversification, and more like Revolution.

Jason Kenney's promised to prevent the second of those three now that he's become the first thing as premier of Alberta...and likewise with Doug Ford in Ontario...
