From 2009: Market Mall Tower Mast

The Market Mall used to actually be a shopping mall with a Pizza Hut, a fitness centre, a sheet music shop and a few other things in its two-story-tall confines. Then it got sold off to a company looking to house four of its radio stations. After that, our local CTV affiliate CJOH got added in when their studios at Clyde and Merivale burnt down. (We're not supposed to call it "CJOH" anymore, but never mind that.)

This is part of the antenna farm that got installed when the radio stations moved in.

Obviously I don't know the topography of your area. Where I grew up, Phoenix, it's surrounded by mountains, so all of the radio station transmitters were up on South Mountain and they had their offices where ever they wanted them with a microwave link to the transmitter. Same thing here: a big ridge runs alongside Alamogordo, so they put the big towers on the ridge. That's pretty ungainly to have in the middle of town, it's not difficult to disguise antennas and dishes these days.

Our surrounding mountains - such as they are - tend to be low-lying, and we have rivers and a canal cutting through the region. I'll try to post map linkages at some point.

I'd love to see that.  I'm one of those weirdos who think topo maps are neat.

Cool!  No, I did not.  MANY years ago I used to play Morrow Project and topo maps were fun for that.
