Amongst the things our current administration is doing is gutting the Environmental Protection Agency, so clean water is going to become iffy for a lot of the country. On top of that, another EPA regulation let coal mining operations dump directly in to rivers, so those communities are going to be hit even more hard.
And there's that Great Lakes mess about to be aggravated too. I consider that proposal to be akin to stabbing Canada in the front and back. But where DT-45 and company at the federal level look ready to sharpen and aim the knives, the municipal, county and state levels on your side of the border look ready to oppose said sharpening of knives.
Yeah, the possible destruction of the Great Lakes would definitely be bad for Canada. The problem with counting on states to maintain standards is that a majority of state houses are either dominated by Republicans and with a Republican governor, or both State houses are entirely controlled by them. And states have passed laws forbidding lower municipalities from doing things that they wanted to do, such as supporting LGBTQ rights, so there's absolutely no telling how this will play out.
I just read that Mexico is cancelling sugar export permits to the USA in their country because there is no one in the government for them to talk to! "45" has not appointed people to lower, yet still, critical cabinet positions. The Mexican government has no one to discuss permits with, so they're cancelling the permits. The Republicans are getting their 'government so small that you can drown it in a bath tub', and they're going to see the consequences of what that means.
