dewlineAndrew Barton spoke a little while back about planet-naming in pop fiction (and possibly elsewhere as well).
My thought?
One of the things the Trek writers - TV, novels in particular - seem to have been sneaking in has been the assumption that the species we see DO have their own names for themselves and their worlds. But that pesky Universal Translator as we know it today was first programmed by humans...
