New Garage for Old
Originally uploaded by dwight_ew
This was taken a month or so back, before the transit strike, during the City Arts Funding Upheavals of 2008. The people responsible for the Rideau Centre - I'll likely need to be corrected/further informed on exactly who later - wanted to put up a new parking garage to replace the one that was originally built attached to that downtown mall.

While it doesn't precisely match the existing decor of the mall itself, the new structure does have a certain charm to it. Not quite "Art Deco", but a distant relative of it.

Even parking garages should look good to the eye, don't you think?

Maybe I should get downtown more. I don't recall any new parking garage for the Rideau Centre. Is this the one bounded by Daly, Nicholas and Besserer?

Yes, it is. Old site, new building.

When did they tear the old one down? I used to park there frequently when I worked at 101.

Just this past summer. Near as I could tell, the old building was slowly going to pieces. Not unlike some of its neighbours which could stand some fast(er) action if they're to be saved for future reuse. Example I've got in mind is the one on Nicholas and Rideau, right across Besserer from the garage in question.
