What I wrote to my MP about the CBC
Jun. 9th, 2013 04:05 pmLeaving the name of the person out of it, myself. But this was what I wrote.
-----
I just saw the excerpted proposed resolutions re: CBC for the national Conservative convention. Including the one from your party's Ottawa-Orléans riding association.
I will repeat myself at the risk of being deemed surplus to requirements as a voting citizen: I reject the idea that it might be in any way desirable to do any of the following with the CBC...
1) Pravda-fication - the conversion of the public broadcaster into yet another propaganda device of the government of the day. Including this one.
2) Privatization - self-explanatory.
3) Pledge Drive-based business model - I know how vulnerable to editorial subversion by donors that renders organizations such as PBS in the States. No thank you.
4) Powering-down - shuttering the CBC for keeps in other words.
None of these four alternatives, however desirable to various members of the Conservative Party or to the current government as a whole, is acceptable to me as a Canadian citizen. All such resolutions proposed at your party's convention are therefore unwelcome.
My thanks for your time.
