E-Mail Decisions of the Morning

There's about twenty different people that it feels like I should be sending e-mails to this morning before work starts, and I can't decide who to write to first.

My brain is not great right now.

It has been long enough in the day that I can suggest this without creating pressure, I think. In these situations, find some form of random generator: names in a hat, sort of thing. Pull a hat and answer that email. If you feel resistance to that hat, throw it back and draw again.

There are two things: one is the issue of just darned well getting started. One will be further ahead answering the "wrong" email first than none at all. The other is that buried in that steaming pile of social obligation is at least one thing one really doesn't want to deal with. Choosing to do it last feels unfair, but it becoming last by luck of the draw is okay. Also: once rolling and limbered up one may feel ready to deal and do it sooner.

Begin and think only of the email before one.
