If there's one thing I can be counted on, it's accumulating markers - pens in general - as if they were truly going out of style. Of course, in this age of software like Manga Studio, Photoshop, Painter, and assorted other packages, it may well be that they are doing exactly that. If so, that makes my packratting the darned things while I can a Damned Good Idea.
(Yes, I've decided to focus my comics work on the pencil side of things. I'm not ruling out experimenting and training with other tools while I'm at it, though. B.I.D., though...)
Some of the markers I've bought lately are designed to closely resemble those Rapidograph gadgets, but without the mess of cleaning them between usages. You've seen the brands in the art supply shops if you've ever been at all interested yourself: Pitt Pens, Sharpie Ultra-Fines, Staedtler Triplus Ultrafine, Prismacolor Premier, Deleter Neo-Piko2, and so on.
Yes, even Prismacolor's getting into the game. The market's been slowly turning into something akin to paradise on Earth on this front. Which I like. Trouble is, not every product line carries the colour ranges I'd like to use, and I'd rather not resort to those classic alcohol-based pens like Tria and "classic" Prismacolor if I can avoid it. Safety issues involved with those.
Example: I'd dearly love to see Prismacolor Premier or Pitt Pens have a proper "Caucasian Flesh"(or "pale orange" or "peach" or whatever they want to call it in their catalogues), for example. Among other human flesh tones. To be fair, the Pitt Pens' brush-pen editions do come very close for several of humanity's skin tones. Their competitors could stand to do a bit more work to catch up, though.
