I was heading back to the bus stop to wait for my ride back to the house from today's visitation, and was not expecting to see this young deer munching on vegetation near the top of the ravine.
There they were, though.
Wow.
(Took me over a day to get the picture uploaded, and I apologize for that.)
Yesterday, I saw a ladybug on the outside of a windowsill, four stories up from the ground. Assorted other insects elsewhere in the neighbourhood, as well. Such as an ant or two this afternoon. Spring is definitely in our part of the Northern Hemisphere now.
It's still warm here in Ottawa-Gatineau. The winds are hotter than I'd like. I saw a wild turkey in northern Orléans two days ago. I did get pictures, and I hope to share them via Flickr at some point soonish.
I got out of the house for a while today. Took the bus to Beechwood Cemetery to inspect the family plot, and it turned into a walking tour of the cemetery as a whole. From Poets' Hill to St. Laurent Boulevard took me roughly an hour.
The weird highlight was seeing two wild turkeys wandering quietly through the RCMP section. I did take pictures, and I hope to upload the imagery to Flickr at some point.
There was a chipmunk in the back yard this morning. I thought it dead, and so went to dig a hole in one of the flower beds to give it a burial. As I started piling on the topsoil, I got that self-inflicted shock: the chipmunk woke up and started scurrying again.
Never assume death, unless it's clearly obvious. And it wasn't obvious here.
I think our rabbit family in the backyard has decamped. If so, I know not where, nor whether or not they're all safe enough. I'll have to live with the uncertainty.
The back yard continues to host at least one adult rabbit with bunnies to feed and raise, at least for the next few weeks.
The House Rabbit Society website has provided a list of items with which to supplement their regular feed. Our household has no plans to try to domesticate any of them. So we'll leave out the odd bit of table scraps - with reference to that House Rabbit Society list - to supplement their regular forage-feed, and otherwise leave them be.
