1. Someone sees the work of the Guardian as a threat.

2. If you're trying to get in or out of metropolitan Vancouver, Canada, you'll need more patience than usual:

3. Same for Ottawa-Gatineau.

4. Mon-Fri 9-5 may be over for many, but what's taking its place in the federal civil service may be problematic in other ways for the staff as much as for the public. Especially in Ottawa-Gatineau where we don't have mask rules back in place yet.

5. The Convoy Siege of Ottawa continues to have consequences for a lot of people living here.

"They're burning futures in the mountains..."

Apologies to Matthew Good.

I can't imagine it's good to be him today watching the news from the west coast of Turtle Island. Not having the lyrics of "Last Parade" from the album Vancouver thrown in his face by the news headlines like this.

That smoke will be over Ottawa tomorrow night probably...?

PHOTOS/BC/SFTV: The Truth of "Cylon-Occupied Caprica"

From 2008.

I'm sure I'm not the first fan of "Second Galactica" to take a picture and make the Joke.

FLICKR: Vancouver Sidewalk Art, 2008

I went to Nanaimo for a relative's wedding in 2008, and managed to take a couple of day-trips across the Salish Sea to Vancouver. This image ended up coming home with me, and being uploaded to Flickr. I can't remember where in Vancouver this was, though...

TV/DC: Batwoman Location Filming

Sometimes, it throws me off: seeing landmarks I know to be associated with either Vancouver - or have I actually seen anything from Vancouver yet? Yes, I have! - or Chicago in Batwoman's version of Gotham.

There does seem to be some interest in borrowing design thought from the Nolan movies here - just look at their version of Wayne Tower as impersonated by the Chicago Board of Trade building...and yet, I expect Gotham to be its own place.

Marvel: Agent Carter, Vancouver and Location Shoot Practicalities

I don't know if anyone reading this LJ these days lives in Vancouver, but it would be good if some of you do, as such readers will be able to give an informed answer on this one. Read this link first:

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/HulkstaTheatre/news/?a=93351

If that linkage is truth, then there's a concern I have. Can they find enough exterior locations of the right age range of sufficient diversity of purpose - housing, commercial sites, and so on - to make that work? I know that CGI set extension wonders can be worked with an astonishing degree of regularity nowadays, but the cost is still an ongoing concern for any production. And if the series in question is Agent Carter, then this is going to be a "period piece" series, set in the late 1940's...

Vancouver, Geography, History: A Question

Is it possibly a good idea that every household in Vancouver should have a copy of Vancouver: A Visual History by Bruce McDonald?

Personally, the fact that it's remained in print for two decades seems a good sign of its usefulness.

Nanaimo IV/Vancouver I

About to hop on the MV Queen of Cowichan to head back to Nanaimo. I met three people whose work and company I enjoy, whom I'd like to say "hello" to again when next I pass this way. More to follow later...

Nanaimo III

More like Day Four.

Which has also been spent in large portion in Vancouver today. Expect to see a couple of photos uploaded to my Flickr account before I log off to catch the ferry back to Nanaimo...

I got to see a few bits of the city I hadn't had a chance to visit before. Considering I was a teenager(or just short of that) the last time I was in town, that's an awful lot. Also, I'm composing a "wanna visit next chance I get" list. Just in case.

To everyone in Vancouver I hoped to see: My apologies. Better planning on my part for next go-round.

Travel Ideas for a Cartoonist, Anyone?

Has anyone checking in here regularly anything to say on V-Con?

I'm considering a trip to Vancouver later this year, and I'd be interested to know if it's a good idea to time it to coincide with that event.
