NEWS/WEB/TECH: Accessing McClatchy DC Bureau

I know they've filed for some form of bankruptcy protection so as to reorganize for their new ownership. But I'm having trouble accessing their DC Bureau website today. Is anyone else having issues of their own?

MAPS/SCIENCE: Damming the North Sea

Some of us have been discussing this proposal elsewhere, if memory serves:

https://bigthink.com/strange-maps/north-sea-dam

No, it's not going to be a panacea. It won't cure ills, but it will slow down some of the worsening consequences whilst deferring them to other places. And it will exact costs in other ways. The British Isles, however their borders are redrawn in the decades ahead, will still lose cities, towns, villages, farms, businesses...as will continental Europe outside the dams now containing/shielding/distorting the North Sea. Building this NEED project will be a consequence that creates consequences.

Building it will require the European Union to go from a coalition of nations to being a nation. If it hasn't already gotten there by the time the decision to build is taken.

MADDOW: About the Stone Sentencing...?

A prediction: Mr. John Crabb is going to get - pardon my choice of language here - shitcanned for what he said as transcripted and reported here.

He will not deserve it, and that is exactly why it will happen. He should be protected to every degree possible.

RIP Retail: the Comic Strip

So I got to see the last installment of Retail(: the Comic Strip) today, apparently. Because Sunday comic strips are always published on Saturdays in Canadian newspapers. Even when there's a Sunday edition of that particular paper.

It's...anticlimactic. And unsentimental, too.

Perhaps that shouldn't have been a surprise.
