On the Oil Industry Declaring Themselves "the Energy Industry"

I saw the full-page ads where they tried to declare themselves as being the energy industry incarnate. Never mind the renewables, only oil is allowed to matter as being "vital to the Canadian economy" and all that stuff and nonsense?

(I'm sure that "vital..." phrase is an actual quote from somewhere in the oil sector!)

That ad annoys me. Especially in the present context. As does the behind-the-scenes meddling.

I'm not sure that I have much more to say than that on this topic right now.

I'm thinking this goes back to BP trying to rebrand themselves during/after the Gulf/Deepwater Horizon spill? I don't recall if it predated that bit of infamy, but I do remember their attempt at rebranding themselves.
