A little bit of portfolio stuff re: an upcoming event...

If you want a higher-resolution edition, in order to help get the word out, I could upload that to a public-access folder on Dropbox.

I won't be able to attend this year since I'll be out of town. (One of these years I'll make it!) But I couldn't help but notice that the convention seems lower profile this year both in terms of hotel and guests. Was there a conscious decision to scale back? Or was it just a matter of logistics?

I also find the decision to schedule this concurrently with the Animation Festival and Nuit Blanche surprising. I expect it'll hurt your attendance since those are must-see events for many local fans.

Actually, Jeff, we've been scaling up - albeit quietly - over the past year.

Among our other activities in the interim:

- Two writing workshops
- Two meetings of our short fiction reading group with more planned for the near future.
- Expanded social media presence on Livejournal, Facebook, Meetup.com and other online venues.
- improved networking with other local fan groups including the Ottawa SF Society, the Ottawa Browncoats, KAG Canada, USS Magellan, Whovians of Ottawa and others yet to be named

As to the timing re: those other events, there is some small overlap in the target audiences, but we don't expect that to be a factor re: attendance at this point.

CAN-CON is mostly a literary conference for now - and "literary" includes comic books for our purposes! - so that avoids too much conflict with the Animation Festival. Nuit Blanche is also more of a "multi-media" operation than we plan to be at this point.
