Checking In - Morning, June 6, 2023

Well, we're coping with wildfire smoke coming into Ottawa-Gatineau from the west and north of us at the moment. Air quality statement is in effect.

Yeah, this is going to be "fun" for a while. I am already masking up for my morning walks because I usually pick up newspapers and groceries towards the end of them, and this is one more reason to keep masking.

More later.

Canadian smoke is making its way to central Maine, both from western fires and from Nova Scotia.

I do not hold you personally responsible.

Today the skies are less apocalyptic orange but a stiff northern wind is blowing and now you can smell the smoke. Close windows, says Env.Can. and I just might.

I posted some photos from the house this morning on Mastodon. The street looked foggy. It's bad. Very bad. Wear your N95 mask outdoors eh?

Yes, it's quite noticeable in the west end of the city as well. I particularly feel for folks like you who are already reliant on CPAP machines and other related gear. Was that your letter I saw in the Citizen recently about masking (and non-masking) in health-related places like clinics?

It's reached the southern end of New York State and down into Pennsylvania.

We're keeping our windows closed here. Hope things get better soon up there.

Today I masked outside for the first time since I found out you didn't need to unless you were in a crowd. It was so gritty I couldn't breathe.
