Things I Don't Look Forward To

This convoy coming to Ottawa this week is one of them.

They not only want to make things worse for my lungs - whether they believe it or not doesn't matter to me and my doctor - some of them are looking for excuses to target their preferred minority scapegoat too. With people like Kennedy, Ford, and Dugin singing praises of their like, that makes me more than a little antsy for the safety of a lot of us in Canada.

I'm not opposed to pipelines, but it's not something I'd protest for?

Like, the only purpose of a protest for that sounds like it's to troll the libs.

(On the subject of pipelines, my objections start before the oil is removed from the ground. Once it's out, are pipelines really more dangerous than rail?)

Personally I suspect rail would be more hazardous than pipelines, but there's also the factor that this is using infrastructure to protect an industry. If there is a pipeline in place, there is pressure for government subsidies to keep it filled, even if there are more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives in the future. As electric vehicles become cheaper to produce and operate, petroleum demand will change.

I hadn't thought about the sunk costs - that's one of the most effective anti pipeline arguments that I've heard.

Unless we get to the point that other energy resources are cheaper than oil, those types will never change.

They're full-on astroturf. The media should just ignore them, but of course now they have to be considered a serious movement rather than useful idiots.
