Unfortunately, and you know this as well as I do, creeping fascism doesn't stop when one (comparatively ineffective) figurehead dies, especially if there are more effective figureheads waiting for exactly that moment (and having been prepped for that, which thankfully Trump never has been).
I was mostly thinking of the UK where Boris Johnson was appalling but also lazy and dimwitted. His exit has propped open the door for far worse to creep through into power.
The advantage of Trump is that he managed to be jealous of Mike Pence, lmao, so there's no way he's going to allow Vance to gain popularity without attempting to sabotage him. Add to that the fact Vance isn't part of any traditional party machine, and is widely interpreted as being mostly pro-Vance, and I have hopes that Trump will live long enough for them to damage each other as much as possible.
I mean, Kamala Harris (and Keir Starmer) aren't my idea of firmly halting the drift towards fascism either, tbh.
