Deer Invaders,

I've been noticing you lurking in the cornfields north of the Queensway connecting Orléans to central Ottawa here and there, but never did I imagine how brazen you'd become on Vancouver Island in recent years until I saw with my own eyes and photographed with my own camera.

Now I know.

I've been aware that they have become a deer nuisance for quite a while now. Before my mother passed away, she lived near Cowichan Bay on the island. Suffice to say that the four-legged nuisances ate most of her rare flowers. She had to switch to heather in order to find something that they would not eat (and put up extra fencing to defend the few floral survivors).

Needless to say, she was *not* amused.

I can't speak to your mother's issues. But it seemed as though the fellow in my second photo had mostly confined himself to playing lawn mower and weed eater during his visit to the yard in question.

One wonders if they're starting to learn manners?
