dewline: Facepalming upon learning bad news (bad news)

“Is it my job to feed my neighbour’s child? I don’t think so.”

Who said that?

James Moore, our federal industry minister. The title is a direct quotation.

I fear to say more than this.

My initial reaction when I learned of it via Rob McLennan.

I'm not sure you need say more than that.

Sigh.

We're maybe a year and a half away from our next federal election at this point. The planning-ahead to solve as much as we can of these things is already in progress in any number of places, thankfully, and quotes like this can serve as fire in the belly for a lot of us to keep the hope for better than this going.

I'm not planning on picking up bricks anytime soon.

Technically, if he doesn't care about others, or doesn't subscribe to a religious/faith tradition that encourages charity towards others...

He doesn't NEED to feed his neighbour's children.

However, it does make him sort of a douchebag.

For our shared purposes, that's more than enough.
