The Ontario election didn't quite go as I'd either hoped or feared. A mixed blessing, and we continue more or less as before. At least we didn't go all the way into nightmare territory this time. And maybe McGuinty will re-list eye exams under medicare coverage in Ontario. I could certainly use that break. My eyesight is not a luxury item.

I am disturbed by the lack of voter turnout in my current home province, though. I was hoping for more of us to show up.

While I'm not enthused by having another four years of McGuinty Liberals, I'm ecstatic at not having been saddled with Hudak and his nasty gang of bigots. Besides, the New Democrats are holding the balance of power. Things might finally get done in a way that we like.

Largely agreed, especially after the neo-cons had the unmitigated gall to call for an end to the 'war on the car' (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ontariovotes2011/story/2011/10/05/hudak-cbc-interview654.html).

However, the NDP proposal to cancel the HST for gas purchases also did not appeal. Why can't we get past this "gifts to motorists" mentality?

Considering the bail-outs for the big car-makers into the equation as well...there's still just too much money and votes at stake right now. We're outnumbered for the moment.
