Canadian Acting Talent and Demands for Lack of Self-Confidence

Well, from where your host sits, this counts as another act of rudeness on the part of Telefilm Canada's current upper management:

http://www.cbc.ca/arts/film/story/2010/02/20/telefilm-rules-change.html

It's a call for lack of confidence in our homegrown acting talent base, as far as I'm concerned. A call for our actors to lack in self-confidence as well. As if the process of trying to earn an honest living in the field of their dreams in their own country weren't hard enough for them.

Not quite sure which is the bigger error in logic, judgement and basic good manners.

You may have a different opinion, though.

That was the craziest thing I've heard from Telefilm for a long time! He neglects to note that those successful Quebec films he refers to star Quebecois!

Had indeed read that particular news, and it is indeed good news!

And we've seen and heard odd and disturbing things from Telefilm before over the decades, yes?

Definitely! The previous boss was good, but I believe he only had one term: not enough to shepherd through lasting changes.

Also, this current boss falls back on the auteur model of filmmaking, which leads to blaming the artists rather than looking at the massive distribution inequities in English Canada.

The addressing of which has been traditionally verboten at the insistence of the MPAA, as we know from reading Hollywood North among other sources. And I can't see the current government being willing to tell the MPAA to stick it over this.

I hate to say it, but these comments are ^typical^ of what I would expect from the attitude of our current (neo-con) government.

Does seem to be consistent with known policy, doesn't it?
