Coalitions and Such: A Note of Personal Opinion

For myself?

No, I don't think the Coalition was trying for a coup. I know what the term means, I know what "loss of confidence of the House" means, and I know what at least some of the rules of Parliament are. This was not a coup. The Coalition would've had to actively suborn the Chief of Defence Staff and a good chunk of DND for that to happen. I don't think the Coalition leaders think they even need to consider "going there". And I doubt that they'll ever consider it.

So. No coup. All the wishing of the Coalition's critics won't make it so, either.

All I know about the Canadian political/governmental system is what I read on Wikipedia; if I understand correctly, the Governor-General gave Harper a couple of months to fix things before Parliament comes back into session, is that correct?

Looked at in an optimistic light, yes.
