Spam Calls

Well, this was a first: a spam call that was from Shanghai directed to my cell phone. As in "my cell phone call display is telling me the number's from Shanghai".

Should I post it? Would it matter?

I had three recorded-spam calls yesterday telling me that my SIN had been suspended. Sheesh.

One of my favorites is a YouTube video of a scammer calling a woman telling her that an arrest warrant has been issued for her and police are on their way to take her into custody as they are speaking. She's a chief of police, in uniform, in her office, and barely able to keep from laughing as they're making a video of it. I guess one of her captains was recording it on his cell as she's talking to the scammer on speaker phone.

Boy, was it a laugh, watching the cops in the room with her with huge grins!

I remember one of the weirder scam calls that I got on my phone was from a Caribbean island at about 3am during the week. I am not on a phone call basis with anyone outside of the continental USA and did not know anyone traveling. In the morning, I looked up the number and found out that the scam is that they bounce you around phone numbers, putting you on hold, and you're getting charged $30 a minute for the privilege.

That was the day that I learned how to program the Do Not Disturb timer on my phone.

I've already received calls, probably from everywhere except Shanghai ;)
