MEMORY: Early Cameras

Hey, [personal profile] rfmcdonald, didn't you take a pic of a giant mockup of the older camera once?

Oh my goodness, our household had a Kodak Instamatic - our family's good times were recorded with it!

The flash cubes were wonderfully "futuristic" to me. Other people, largely but not always guys, liked to chew on them for some reason I can't recall.

But flash cubes and that camera got us through Expo 67, and I still have some of the pictures from that visit.

The trip to Expo 67 was a major event in my life. My mother, brother and I took the train from Halifax to Toronto, then a bus to Ottawa to stay with my aunt; for at least three days and possibly more, we would get up early every morning and take a bus from Ottawa to Montreal, and spend the day there until about 5 p.m., take the bus back to Ottawa and repeat the next day. I became the person who could find her way around the fair. I still recall that our very first pavilion visit was to Iran's huge, purple, and quite beautiful pavilion.

I have a collection of cameras (you might have guessed) so maybe I also ought to share some pics some time.

The little Instamatic is very familiar. :o)

Both look familiar. I remember the pop-in square flashcubes the one on the left used. I think we owned a model very close to it. I think it used 126 drop-in film cartridges?

I still have (somewhere) our family Kodak Instamatic. We also still have an old box brownie, which made the instamatic look so splendid. ;)
