I'm reading as of 26 August that the Toronto Port Authority - a federal agency - is looking to replace the ferry with an underground - not just underwater - tunnel arrangement for people to just walk through.

The mayor of Toronto at this writing got himself elected on a number of promises, including ending the island airport. So he's not very happy about this development.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of the whole dispute yet. I've used the island airport once or thrice back in the days when I hadn't yet gotten hooked on VIA Rail as my preferred travel method, so I have a nostalgic affection for the place...at least the pre-Porter Airlines days. Back when it was Air Ontario and their little Dash 6 or 7 planes going in and out of the place.

Air Ontario never had Dash 6's (no such animal, although people might know the venerable DHC-6 Twin Otter, which Air Ontario never flew), or the Dash 7. You're prolly thinking of the Dash 8, which they still fly, just not to there. Porter is flying the Dash 8 Series 400, or the Q400, into YTZ these days.

I wasn't entirely sure I remember exactly what make and model Air Ontario was using back then. The correction's welcome.

Also, I didn't know that Air Ontario is still in business, so thanks also for that!

Now my turn to clarify. Air Ontario, Air Alliance, AirNova and all the other old Air Canada feeder affiliates got morphed into Air Canada Jazz quite a while back. Same aircraft, more or less the same routes, same staff, similar paint jobs...

And this, I should have remembered but forgot!
