Social Media Note: Hey.Cafe

So...I signed up for another service today.

Hey.Cafe is Canadian-owned and operated, and if I lose access to US-based services because of national/international security, there'll still be this, right?

I spent many a happy evening shopping in that Shoppers.

It started as a gently curved line of stores, with a Shop Easy (grocery)[3] in the middle (where the pseudo Safeway[1] is now), with the Shoppers and a shoe shop to the north (short arm of the curve), and a collection of changing store fronts on the long arm of the curve to the southeast. One year when I was 8, one of those random store fronts had a scruffy Santa set up for photos. Ask me how I know.

Even so, the "new" wing with the Copper Mug has been there for at least 30 to 40 years.

The area was actually a square shopping area, with a gas station on the southeast corner, and a Dog 'n Suds[2] on the not-quite corner of the northeast.

[1] Safeway was bought by another major grocery chain, and now the stores that are left are *nothing* like a proper Safeway

[2] "Suds" refers to rootbeer

[3] I had my first kiwifruit there. I was 18, my friend worked there after school, we didn't know how to eat them, so we took spoons to them like softboiled eggs. That's still my favourite way to eat them.
