Trek: Bad News for Fans Outside US + Canada

This was not a good day for CBS.

My access to Trek is secure here in Canada, sure. But this was rotten treatment of fans outside of the US and Canada. Just plain rotten.

I have subscriptions to three streaming services and two theatre streaming subscriptions plus the three UK television broadcast catch-up services which are free. I think I've got more than enough streaming subscriptions.

I'm not convinced that the strategy of each and every production company having their own subscription service is going to work. There's not enough hours in the day to watch all the stuff that is already available.

I notice that there is (for me at least) a pretty steep reduction in marginal utility from adding another streaming service but I am not such a huge fan of a television programme or film franchise that I would let a single piece of output persuade me to add another service. (At least no so far - perhaps when the BBC put Only Connect behind a paywall I'll change my mind.)

I actually didn't realize that Disco was on Netflix. I've just been torrenting it.

It struck me as quite badly timed. They're not ready to launch their Paramount streaming service world-wide, yet they're canceling all their other streaming outlets. A lot of their viewers will not return due to shabby behavior.
