Good for Michael Waite!! How is it suggested we should act to de-endanger independent newspapers? If there's a workable solution, then count me in!

On the Ottawa scene, I just picked up a copy of the Centretown Buzz from Perfect Books (8 pages, monthly I think). A really excellent paper and the ads it does have are definitely useful and practical! Distributed free in the Centretown area but possibly they could look at an optional paid subscription model for those who can and want to support it?

What I wish my Jordan neighborhood of Minneapolis would do is produce a weekly tiny "index card" of news among our few blocks of town. Either mail or (to save money but use time) walk to every house and drop off the news each week. Hyper-local news. If I get a job to let me stay here, maybe I'll get more involved again and try to take on that project myself.

Regardless, I do pay to get a local physical paper delivered from 2 community newspapers. Currently lapsed, because no job. :(
