That last quote is a truth, isn't it?

I can't resent the idea of free - more accurately, "pre-paid via taxes"? - education. I might benefit from it myself someday if it comes to pass for one thing. For another, I want future generations of Canadians to have it better than I did, on principle. Also, our retrenching to deal with the consequences of the climate derangement crisis and seize whatever other economic opportunities might come about as a nation might also benefit from this.

Someone on Slashdot has a sig that said "I like paying taxes - with them I buy civilization."  That's exactly my feelings on the matter.  Taxes are capable of buying very good things.  Free education - maybe that isn't possible, but it certainly can be less expensive and perhaps fully subsidized for the needy.
