Heard and understood. For me, the Chilean 9/11 was a thing that happened to other people far away while I was bouncing from town to town, school to school, as a federal civil service brat barely out of diaper training. A thing I'd only gradually picked up clues about as I got older. Others my age who'd lived it and carried the scars...meeting any of them, even if only across a crowded event space at literary festivals...took longer.
