Some good medical news.

I got the results of the blood tests today. Thyroid and kidneys are good, blood sugar at the lower end of the pre-diabetic range. So I'm pleased with that. Ditto with the healing of the "ulcers" on my shins. No more changing dressings before bedtime, no more antibiotic ointment. For the time being, at least.

I'll likely be sticking with the compression socks for the foreseeable future, as well as keeping the unused ointment and dressing pads Just In Case.

I don't expect to evade Type 2 diabetes forever, mind you, no matter how careful I become. That strikes me as an inevitability, barring new medical triumphs (which are, so we've been hearing, being researched on a continuing basis and seem closer to bearing useful fruits of knowledge and treatment regimens).

Meantime, I've been enjoying what I can of the vacation leave left to me by my current day-job contract. That ends at close of business tomorrow. On the weekend, I file the relevant federal paperwork, and on Monday, the job search begins again, officially. Unofficially, it never really stopped.

More on other matters later.

Well, the diasp0ra.ca issue seems to disappear when I use Safari rather than Firefox 11, and Firefox has been acting oddly over the last day or two. Maybe the next time I'm prompted to update to Firefox 12, I should do so?

Right.

So...Victoria Day. The third Monday of May is a federal statutory holiday to honour the memory of the monarch who signed off on promoting Canada from colony to Dominion back in 1867. Therefore, this is a long weekend. Considering the weather in Ottawa the city at the moment, perhaps we might all consider retiring to our basements, cellars, Diefenbunkers and other assorted underground hangouts to evade discomfortable levels of temperature without humidity.

Tomorrow I go back to the day-job, after three days' paid time off and a week's unpaid leave(that last subject to amendment, I hope). And I'm bracing for the next job hunt.

At DC Comics' 52 website, I found an article that confirms a longstanding suspicion about the fictional inhabitants of comic book universes and the rewrites of history they often have to live through and sometimes die of.

Bill Doskoch was inspired by something he found on the value and health of the concept of the vacation. Being one of those people actively seeking to blend work and joy together permanently in as healthy a fashion as I can get away with -- something that cartoonists, writers and astronauts all have in common, yes? -- I do worry for the rest of us on this score. A lot.

The NHL-CBC Relationship continues for the moment, as previously commented upon here. As also noted in my previous posting, there's some concern over the perceived "Leaf Nation Dominance", but that may be overshadowed by larger concerns, with the initials CTV and TSN being thrown about. Most annoying.
