Updating the Printer Situation, and Some Other News

The printer head cleaning seems to have worked to a point. I've replaced the Cyan cartridge, since that finally exhausted its ink supply. Eventually, I'm going to have to test it to be sure of whatever fixes I've made so far.

Oh, the tablet computer from Air Miles arrived today. I'm letting it warm up to room temperature before I test it out because I walked it home from the post office.

Well, I Thought My Printer Was Behaving Again...

...but the Cyan and Magenta aren't showing up at all, and there's gap-lines in the Black ink, and I keep getting error messages. It's the most immediate problem I have, and there's other people dealing with far worse than me at the moment if I need reminding of the perspective.

I just tried to print off a weather forecast from Environment Canada.

Nothing. There's ink in the cartridges, but none on the pages.

I can't deal with it right now. It'll have to wait until after work, therapy and dinner.

My Epson WF-7840 keeps throwing off "paper length does not match" messages, "turn off and on" messages, and other kinds of error messages. I'm thinking that I should never have downloaded those firmware updates.

1. Reading about this "Freedom Rally" crap on Twitter. Apparently, there were pro-fascist/anti-vaccination "rallies" in major cities across Canada today, including Ottawa because national capital city, right?

I have no respect for these people. None.

More detail...I was on Elgin Street picking up stuff this morning, and spotted someone hauling a white-on-black version of the Gadsden flag heading north, probably towards Parliament Hill.

One More Friday Morning

One of my job applications is now in the reference-checking phase.

I've decided that I need to replace my printer. Tomorrow, because there are cards I want to design, print and send to friends.

Might finally buy new eyeglasses later today, after five years' making do with an outdated 'script'.

Getting back to work on cataloguing my personal library's collections with an eye towards planning out the virtual yard sale AKA the Culling Project.

Other stuff going on, too.

My user group helped me find a workaround, and it's something the new WiFi modem/router is useful in setting up: Airprint.

I still think that DRM is malware by definition, though.

Printer Update

It seems that replacing the black ink cartridge has re-set the cyan and magenta print head functionality. Not sure how or why. But it's done. For now, anyway.

Printer Woes - February 2020

Magenta and Cyan are not working for me at all today, despite their still having viable ink. Multiple cleanings and realignment attempts avail me nought, so far. Still using the OfficeJet 7612 for this. Oh, and the Black cartridge is emptied from all the tests and cleanings and realignments, apparently.

I'm going to break for an early supper.

Taking a break from designing a Christmas card...

...that'll be going to my sister's family on the day. Perversely, I don't have the money to buy cards made by other people right now, but I've got the hardware, software, ink and paper to make my own from scratch in the house. For now, at least.

So, I think I've found a vector clip-art silhouette or three that could populate the landscape on the front of the card. I can make the footprints in the snow, the stars in the night sky...but trees were a problem.

Now to see how to add curves to the snowbank without turning the snow from white-to-pale-blue to solid black. I know there's a way to do it in Illustrator CS4...and I just have to rediscover it.

Update 1: my colour printer is throwing up this message:

"There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP."

"Cyan - cartridge has failed". The others, I've been defying HP re: where I get refills from for a couple of years now.

Update 2: Some cartridge-swapping, and a few shutdowns later, the card I designed was finally printed. Victory is mine, Hewlett-Packard!

A note about printers

I currently own and use a Hewlett-Packard-made scanner-printer device. I didn't buy into such plans as described in the article by Cory Doctorow, but it is programmed to complain to me every time I use a refilled ink cartridge. I find that obnoxious enough as it is.

This is worse.

If Hewlett-Packard wants me to keep buying their scanner-printer devices when my current machine "dies", it would go well for them to cease and desist in the practices Mr. Doctorow describes here.

Printer-Related Mystery

Cyan printhead problem looks like it's just about fixed. One remaining mystery: wondering why the blue looks perfect printing out a thing from Google Maps but "Clean Printheads" still gets me white lines interrupting the cyan ink.
