Assorted Items of Note - First August Weekend, 2007

Among the items that caught my attention whilst recovering from a "just a week after leaving the day-job" bug this weekend:

Tod Maffin noticed something possibly amiss with a certain TV channel's placement on the Shaw Cablevision dial. You'll have to judge for yourselves if he's right or wrong and to what degree.

I'm somewhat concerned about the CBC's executive hiring methods. So are others, it seems. Meanwhile, word is that they're doing enough right to re-grow their audience again in the wake of the Lockout of 2005. "Worrying news, good news" situation at play here.

Someone reminded me that there was a time when insults had to be truly well thought out and delivered. May that aspect of those days return.

I've been hearing something to the effect that Mars will be - by the end of this month - briefly as clearly visible in our night sky as the Moon. I fully plan to check out the Astronomy and Sky and Telescope sites - among others - to confirm this, but if anyone else has already seen reports from credible sources...?

Update: The Moon-Mars thing is definitely a HOAX. Sky and Telescope delivers the details.

Also wondering about one other thing: Does anyone know how to fiddle with the "Schools" section so you can acknowledge having graduated from two programs at the same institution? (Not at the same time, of course!)

About that "Worst Canadian" Survey?

Well, I can't find my original posting, but something [livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll wrote recently reminded me that the results were finally published.

Some surprises on there, although given the arguments over Trudeau over the decades, it's no surprise that he's anywhere in the top ten at all. Disappointing, but not surprising.

That musician Hannah, though, never should have made it onto the list at all.
